Without the Statement of Professional Standing, pension and investment advisers cannot practice and cannot offer advice to clients. Every year investment and pension advisers need to submit their record of continued professional development to their professional body who, on acceptance issue the all important certificates. Continued professional development takes two forms structured with learning outcomes and unstructured, which is reading the trade press, attending conferences, meetings with investment managers and product providers etc. Submissions must include a minimum of 35 hours of CPD with at least 21 hours which must fulfil the structured remit. With so many changes across the spectrum of personal financial planning CPD this year has easily overshot the minimum requirements and whilst writing this article in true geeky fashion its worth reflecting on some of the CPD highlights. 1. Four quarterly conferences from the Personal Finance Society covering topical issues and bringing finance professionals together. 2. Auto enrolment - establishing who the new providers are in a changing workplace pensions landscape. 3. The Intrinsic specialist workshops covering Pension Transfers, The Protection Academy and Through Retirement Advice. 4. Commencement of advanced chartered practitioner studies starting with J05 and J11 But nothing is as good as sharing a pot of tea with clients and making sure they and those who depend on them are financial secure, now and in the future.
